Simply HomeBirth was established in 2010. It is is a licensed midwifery practice. It has grown tremendously over the past decade when it originally took over from an existing practice that had served the same community for over 30 years. Various midwives have served this community and we are happy to continue the legacy at our new location at 29 N Decatur St, Strasburg since December 2019.
Rachael is a certified nurse midwife, certified by the American Midwifery Certification Board, and licensed with the board of medicine in the state of PA. She received her Masters in Science in Nursing from Columbia University in New York, NY. She also has a BS in Nursing from Columbia University, an MPH from Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine as well as a Bachelors of Science in Biology from Pepperdine University. Rachael has practiced midwifery in New York and Pennsylvania, both in hospital and home birth setting. She has been the owner of Simply HomeBirth Midwifery Services since 2010. She has a home in Strasburg where she lives with her family.
Ellen is a certified nurse midwife, certified by the American Midwifery Certification Board, and licensed with the board of medicine in the state of PA. She received her Masters in Science in Nursing from Columbia University in New York, NY. She also has a BS in Nursing from Columbia University and a BA in International Relations and History from Boston University. Ellen has practiced midwifery in New York, the UAE and now in Lancaster, County PA since she joined Simply HomeBirth in June 2020. She has also practiced in both the hospital and home birth setting. She has a home in Quarryville where she lives with her family.
Rachael and Ellen met at nursing school orientation in New York, NY. They both decided to become midwives after working in other fields. From the first day they met they formed a friendship that has grown over many years and great distances. They have supported each other throughout their careers and personally, sometimes even while living on different continents! They have a strong, supportive working dynamic with tremendous skills and make a wonderful team. Ellen relocated from New York City with her family in 2020 to join Simply HomeBirth and since then their partnership has grown even more.
